art arches

I am planning several rounds of free community art sessions inspired by African American artists. The mock-up showcases a mixed-media art project influenced by Faith Ringgold’s work. Participants will craft self-portraits on fabric squares, which will be assembled into a communal quilt that adorns a large arch. I imagine variations of this project featuring different artist and activities.

This summer, I’m excited to join in parades, starting with Brooklynn’s Juneteenth NY Parade on June 16th, followed by the 55th annual African American Day Parade in Harlem on September 15th. At these celebrations, I’ll be distributing sashes adorned with empowering messages like “Black is Beautiful,” aiming to uplift the emotional and psychological well-being of black individuals in attendance.

Numerous festivals and outdoor summer gatherings offer platforms to connect with the community and promote the importance of arts in community building. During these events, I aim to provide engaging photo opportunities and meet-and-greets to interact with attendees and share insights on fostering community through artistic endeavors.
